If you’re packing for school, one place you can start is with your backpack. There are many different types, sizes and styles of backpacks. Some hang loosely from one shoulder, some are designed to be worn on your back, and others have wheels so you can roll them down the hall. Which one is right for you? That depends on a couple of factors: how much homework you usually have to carry, whether you can submit assignments electronically, how much stuff you can keep in your locker and - most importantly - what style you like the most.
Most backpacks are filled with pockets and padded dividers both inside and out. That’s a huge help since it lets you organize things before you head out of the house. When you’re in class, it’s not hard to locate a specific folder, holder or notebook. That way you have much less stress.
What kind of things should you bring along? Again, that depends mostly on you. You know the classes you have each period and the rules of the school you attend. Pack anything that makes your life easier, but keep things as light as possible, so you feel comfortable too. Writing utensils like pens, pencils and highlighters are useful, and they fit easily into a pencil case for safekeeping. A planner or calendar helps you stay organized. Homework holders are nice since you can have everything ordered by class, ready to go at a moment’s notice. A toiletry bag holds personal items like deodorant, headache medicine, lip gloss and anything else you like to keep close to you. You can slide a laptop or tablet into one of the compartments of your bag or have it in a separate case for extra protection. It might be good to bring along a charger in case of emergencies too.
If your school allows it, carrying some snacks for the day is helpful. When you eat something healthy, it gives you energy, helps you concentrate and improves your mood too. That’s a big plus at school since you’re using your brain and your imagination constantly. Many nutrition experts say it’s important to drink enough water too. Water refreshes and revitalizes you, keeping you alert through the day.
Is it OK to eat sweet stuff like chocolate as a snack? If you want to, and you don’t have any health issues with it, then go for it. One thing to keep in mind though is that sugary snacks give you an instant burst of energy, but cause you to crash shortly afterward, making you very sleepy. Trail mix with chocolate with teenagers to munch on before or after physical education classes. Fruits and vegetables give you energy too during class but without the crash.
How can you pack a duffle bag or carry-on suitcase? Well, everyone packs a little bit different. One suggestion is to think about the trip first. That way you know if you need clothes for a night out, a trip to the beach or just relaxing with friends. Many travelers recommend rolling up as much of your clothes as possible since they fit better. Put beauty items, makeup and personal items in separate cases, so they stay where you want them. Pack smaller things like socks last since they fit neatly into any leftover spaces.
